BMW i8: Hybrid Supercar
BMW i8: Hybrid Supercar
The BMW i8. The very first of the i8 hybrid supercar was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in  2009. Since then, it has made appearances in numerous motor shows, caused a massive stir and garnered great publicity.  The BMW i8 even appeared in 2011 film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, where BMW was the official vehicle supplier.

Despite the BMW i8's sporting appearance, it is a plug-in hybrid electric car, sporting a 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder engine and a lithium-ion battery pack. This produces an impressive figure of around 80mpg and a 0-60mph time of just 4.6 seconds, making it both economical and fast. A true hybrid supercar.

BMW also recently announced that production for the hybrid supercar's petrol engine will be in the manufacturer's Hams Hall plant located close to Birmingham.

Expect the BMW i8 to go in sale in 2013, with a hefty starting price of around £100,000.
