At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Skoda previewed the MissionL Concept, which showcased the Czech company's design direction and the possibility of a new model to fill a gap between the Fabia and Octavia. And now it's a reality. Skoda has released official images of the new Rapid model. This sedan shaped hatchback will act as a rival the the already established Ford Focus and the veteran Volkswagen Golf when it arrives in showrooms in November, later this year. Fortunately for Skoda
fans, the Rapid will be the cheapest option of the cars, with the starting price of around £13,000 weighing in at a massive £3,500 less than the Golf, and a not so large £1,000 cheaper than the Focus. But which is better? Although the Skoda does look nice, with the C-shaped rear lights, the design is not very adventurous and lacks flare. The design for the Golf is also slightly bland, but it pulls of a more up-market look which works in its favour, slightly justifying its premium price. The Ford on the other hand looks more distinctive, but slightly odd from some angles. As for boot space, the Rapid wins by a landslide, sporting around 500 litres of space, compared to the Golf's 350 litres and the Focus' 316 litres. All in all, the Rapid should be a worthy contender when it arrives. What do you think? There is also the Rapid's sister car: the Seat Toledo
