As the December launch date for the new Mercedes A Class nears, the German manufacturer have revealed those all important prices for the premium hatchback. From the launch, there will be a choice of 6 engines available, as well as 5 different trim levels (including SE, Sport, AMG Sport, and Engineered by AMG). The cheapest variant will be A180 BlueEFFICIENCY and will start at £18,945, which is by no means cheap for a hatchback, but this is a Mercedes so quality, comfort and a reliable brand are assured. Despite the A180 name, this version of the car will be powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine, producing 120bhp. Plus, if you want an A Class that's cheap to run, the frugal A180 CDI diesel is the car for you, emitting only 98g/km of CO2, and thus ensuring free road tax in the UK. The most expensive model in the range will be the A45 AMG, which is set to cost £28,775 which seems a bargain for the AMG thrills. So is this new model a BMW 1 Series beater? Or would you rather buy a Volkswagen Golf?
