Maserati GranSport: How it could look.

The GranSport name was last used by Maserati back in 2007, with the Maserati GranSport MC Victory. Now, the name is set to be revived in an brand new mid-engined sports car based around the stunning Alfa Romeo 4C.

If the car receives the green-light, it is likely to feature 4.7 litre V8 engine under the hood, with around 500bhp, which would make the new-comer a worthy competitor for the Porsche 911 GT3.

Maserati CEO, Harold Wester, who is also head of Alfa Romeo, is very enthusiastic towards the project, so a concept version might make an appearance at an International Motor Shows within the next 2 years. This comes at a time when the Maserati line-up is being revamped; the new Quattroporte was unveiled recently and the Kubang SUV concept is set to enter production soon.

A potential release date for the Maserati GranSport would be 2015.
